Dan & Matt's List of Links

The list of links below are some of mine and my Son's favorite's, dealing with:

Saltwater Reef Systems: I have had two tanks over the last five years, and definitely want to say, that keeping and maintaining a mini-reef system is very enjoyable experience. The work involved and the costs of upkeep is actually low compared to many other pets (my family raised appaloosa horses).

My current system is a 90 gallon glass, with the full Classic Oak cabinet, the lighting system is presently 6 bulbs, with two of them VHO, the other 4 are NO. For a sump I have a 30 gallon long, that houses a Florida made venturi system that is also air driven. The tank currently has a 100 lbs of beautiful live sand from Tampa Bay Saltwater, additionally in the tank is about 100 lbs of live rock. I still have my original Percula Clown (5 years). its mate took a dive out of tank two years ago for no reason that I can comeup with. The other main fish is a Coral Beauty (4 years), and this past fall I picked up a sand shifter, this variety has caused some minor problems and will be traded back to my favorite salt water store. The corrals, a only a few at this time, because of water problems, and I have a green finger coral, and a brown bubble coral. For maintainance the 100 or small blue legged hermit crabs do a great job.

Planned changes and additions to tank include: upgrade to the Icecap 4 lamp VHO system, the right protein skimmer if one is made. There will be more and I must say fresher live rock, probably Figi or Vanuata live rock. Do to heat this last summer, I will be finally adding chiller (1/5 HP), in the long run it is much cheaper and better than air conditioning. More live hard corrals will be added as improvements are made to this system.

Horror & Science Fiction: I have watched at the movies & television, horror & science fiction problably since the age of 8, yes life was different back in the '50's, go so snicker if you are younger than me, today kids are exposed to this "fun" stuff much earlier. In the old days of science fiction most of these films were B grade and many times of lesser quality, many were somewhat silly & downright dumb. But we still loved 'em. The horror movies on the other hand from that time period, were in general well made productions in many cases and were truly scary.

Science fiction for the last 20 years, has taken a dramatic turnaround from its once humble beginnings as low budget productions to some of the costliest to produce of all films today. It probably has a much wider viewing than horror films of today. How many times can they redo the classic monsters of Frankenstein, Werewolf's, etc.and still keep me interested in paying to view them. With many of today's Horror films being sequels and I in general like many others believe that most sequels are not as high impact as the first in the series. There are many exceptions to this, with Scream 2 being a handsdown winner.
